On the Rebel News Front…

{ rob rogers, pittsburg post-gazette, 2010 }

Another brilliant realworld chess move by Julian Assange and the Wikileaks Org, this week announcing the hiring of Baltasar Garazon, who presided over the prosecution / proceedings of Pinochet in the UK. More here at Common Dreams.

{ Sea Shepherds at work }

One of the world’s most famous and well-backed eco-activists has fled from Germany, breaking bail, after being detained for nearly 2 months awaiting an absurd extradition case by Costa Rica. Sea Shepherd’s founder Capt. Paul Watson whereabouts are now unknown!

XLterrestrials wish him well, and we’ll continue to post updates of how to support him and the Sea Shepherds Org. More info here… and news at Common Dreams.

It seems the legal structures in the so-called “civilized” world are in serious decline ( and/or consistently abused ) when not a single transnational corporate executive guilty of  plundering + destroying the environment ( not to mention, murder )  is jailed, but finds ample time to harass those doing the needed work to protect it.

On a different kind of crusade…

{ Thomas Friedman a la driftglass }

Yep, Warmonger Friedman soldiers on at The NYTimes, writing this week this odious op ed  “Syria Is Iraq”.

Glen Greenwald gives us not only a handy list of the best Thomas Friedman smackdowns ( incl. Matt Taibi and the late Alex Cockburn) – he adds his own… SOck! Pow ! OUch ! : The Value Of Tom Friedman, “His status among American elites is the single most potent fact for understanding the nation’s imperial decline. “

It’s incredible the NYTimes isn’t laughed out of the news park for continuing to openly employ this Sock Puppet Boy Wonder. [ sockpuppet, originally “a person whose actions are controlled by another; a minion".  The XLt useage: a person who has rotating opinions in order to feed from a variety of corporate hands, and/or attempts to obscure previous idiotic utterances - made obvious by historical record - by having his right hand talk to his left hand. ]

ANd, if your looking for some astounding summer reading, Julian Assange’s Unauthorised Autobiography (out already for about a year on Canongate ) is a must read for anyone in the media world… that means anyone w/ internet and currently reading this! And if you want to see what’s crawling under the rock at the NYT, he’s got some precision skewerings in the last chapter re: Bill Keller – the editor.
