Last chance we bumped into Spooky he was here for Dropping Knowledge’s unusual forum experiment at Babelsplatz… where 112 people sitting at the world’s largest constructed roundtable answered 100 questions on global issues assembled from participants around the world. [ btw, an infinitely more purposeful and illuminating convergence of deep thinking folks than this Berlin Fashion Week tent that sits atop the same spot, the infamous site of book burnings during the 3rd Reich. ] Yep we analyzed that one somewhere, we’ll let u do the search.

This time Spooky’s on a tour promoting his new book ( next stop London, at the ICA with Robin Rimbaud aka Scanner) , which gathers essays from another realm of pioneers on the theme “Sound Unbound, Sampling Digital Music and Culture.” Includes articles by Naeem Mohaiemen ( recent runner-up in Transmediale’s new Vilem Flusser award for his article “Fear of A Muslim Planet: Hip-Hop’s Hidden History”), Chuck D, Erik Davis, Eveline Domnitch, Frances Dyson, Brian Eno, Pauline Oliveros, and Saul Williams, to name a just a few.

Aside from making some rippen “mixtapes”, which he’s in the habit of scattering like seeds wherever he lands, Paul Miller ain’t gonna settle for being pinned as just the subliminal remix kid … he’s been active on a variety of fronts from publishing books + websites (21c) to remixing/deconstructing (racist) films live ( Birth of a Nation) to speaking at arts+tech conferences worldwide ( i.e. Digital Independence and Dropping Knowledge).

We’ve had a few criticisms of the arts+tech worlds he’s traveled in extensively, but he’s still way ahead of most of the activated + political forms circulating in these big budget spheres, and hey, where do you go after mixing a heavy-hitter like Saul Williams?!

Should be fun to see what he’s dropping Now! 21:30h at Pro QM.
