Last night we received a precious tip that a special screening of Yüksel Yavuz’s new film Close Up Kurdistan was playing at the Hackescher Hofe Kino, with the whole crew in attendance. Aside from introducing us to a highly active circle of filmmakers, the evening also turned us on to Kardes Turkuler, which is sure to be at The Top of our next XLt Playlist, just as soon as we can scoop up some of their music at UMUT, a store in Kreuzberg ( Adalbertstr. 13) which specializes in music from the near east, today! ABSOLUTELY SPELLBINDING ! Providing the soundtrack for “Close Up Kurdistan”, we also were privy to an inside scoop that they will be the subject of Yuksel’s new film, which will perhaps be something of a TRUE “Crossing the Bridges” piece that will go far far deeper into the incredible convergences of culture in Turkey than Fatih Akin’s acclaimed musical expose’ dared to go. We had no idea the “rabbit lift” goes so high : )
